Reports To: Elementary School Principal, Lead Wrap-around Care Coordinator
Schedule: 3:30 PM – 4:45 PM, Monday through Friday, when ASA's are operating on campus in Elementary School.
Position Overview
The Wrap-around Care Assistant provides a warm, safe, and joyful environment for Early Childhood (EC3, EC4) and Kindergarten (KG) students during the late-afternoon transition. Working under the guidance of the Lead Coordinator, this role maintains critical supervision ratios while balancing play-based activities, time for rest and reset, and a secure dismissal process for young learners. Ideally, the role could cover 5 days for consistency; however, flexible schedules may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountability: Ensure children are accounted for throughout the program, including arrival, transitions, and dismissal.
- Active Play & Supervision: Maintain proactive visual supervision during structured activities, indoor free play, and outdoor play to ensure a physically and emotionally safe and supportive environment.
- Routine & Fatigue Management: Guide children through a reassuring end-of-day routine, utilizing quiet zones, storytime, or light music to reduce late-afternoon tiredness.
- Snack Coordination: Oversee snack times in accordance with catering guidelines, maintaining strict vigilance for dietary restrictions or food allergies.
- Dismissal Escort: Ensure students gather all personal belongings and safely escort them to designated handover points for parent pick-up, sibling collection, or late-bus boarding.
- Room Readiness: Keep play and care spaces organized, tidy, and safe, coordinating minor end-of-session cleanup so environments are reset for the next morning.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Childcare Experience: Ideally has experience working with early learners (ages 3–5) in a preschool, daycare, summer camp, or structured after-school program.
- Core Skills & Temperament: Exceptional patience, emotional intelligence, and stamina needed to soothe and engage young children at the end of a long school day.
- Safety Certifications: Current Basic First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to complete certification upon hire).
- Safeguarding: Will be provided to the successful candidate.
- Toileting: Younger students in EC3 may require support with toileting and toilet learning. The candidate will be expected to provide appropriate assistance when needed and, in line with safeguarding procedures, complete the relevant toileting documentation whenever support is provided.
- Health & Safety: Follow school procedures for accidents, injuries, illness and medical needs. Immediately inform the Lead Coordinator of any health or safety concerns, incidents or injuries, and seek support from the Nurse or other appropriate school personnel as directed.
- Team Collaboration: Proven reliability, clear communication, and the ability to take direction from the Lead Coordinator while collaborating effectively with school security, nursing, and custodial teams.
- Language Proficiency: Proficient oral and written English communication skills.
Compensation: $22/hour
