What is the IB Diploma Programme?

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is designed for students aged 16-19 and offers a future-ready educational experience that cultivates an inquiring mindset, fosters a desire to learn, and prepares students to excel in their careers while leading meaningful lives. Research indicates that there are numerous benefits to choosing the Diploma Programme, which aims to develop well-rounded individuals who thrive physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically.

What the DP Offers our Students

Through the IB Diploma Programme, we can develop students who:

  • Possess a broad and deep knowledge base
  • Flourish in physical, intellectual, emotional, and ethical dimensions
  • Study at least two languages
  • Excel in traditional academic subjects
  • Explore the nature of knowledge through the unique Theory of Knowledge course

The curriculum consists of the DP core and six subject groups. The DP core includes three required components designed to enhance students' educational experiences and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills effectively.

The DP Core Components

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): Students reflect on the nature of knowledge and consider how we know what we claim to know.
  • Extended Essay (EE): An independent, self-directed research project culminating in a 4,000-word paper.
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Students engage in a variety of activities related to each of these three strands.

At AISB, the IB Diploma Core is supported through a dedicated class taught by our IB Diploma Core team, included in all IB Diploma student schedules. Classes focus on Theory of Knowledge while also providing additional sessions on the Extended Essay, CAS, study skills, and academic support.

Pathway to University and Employment

The IB Diploma Programme is recognized and respected by leading universities worldwide. Evidence suggests that students who complete the DP are more likely to pursue higher education than their non-IB peers. Each year, DP students apply to over 5,000 higher education institutions across more than 100 countries, with many attending some of the top-ranked universities globally.
