Position Overview

AISB seeks an experienced and passionate High School IB Biology and Grades 9–10 Science Teacher to join our dynamic secondary faculty. The successful candidate will have a strong background in IB Diploma Biology and experience teaching general science at grades 9 and/or 10. In addition, the teacher would also work as part of a grade-level team in the advisory program, with responsibility for a small group of 10–12 students.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrates strong content knowledge and pedagogy in science, IB Diploma Biology, and a proven ability to make connections within and across disciplines
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of the IB Diploma program outcomes or similar (e.g., AP, GCSE) for Biology
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, concept-based curriculum design, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Understands Backward Design planning, and Standards-Based Teaching, Grading, and Reporting
  • Demonstrates an understanding of typical developmental characteristics of adolescents

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Holds a valid teaching certification (or equivalent)
  • Recent experience teaching in the IB Diploma Program, preferably IB Biology, or similar (AP, GCSE, etc.)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in science or in education
  • Ability to teach another IB Science course is an advantage
  • Understanding of Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and how to integrate ToK effectively across the curriculum
  • Certification and/or experience supporting English Language Learners
  • Experience with Learning Management System (LMS) software (e.g., Veracross, Google Apps) and online grading
  • Experience with online curriculum documentation (e.g., Atlas Rubicon)
  • Recent IB training preferred
  • Experience with Advisory and Community Service programs
  • Demonstration of ongoing professional development in areas of best practice
  • Understands implications of the tenets of the Science of Learning / Universal Design for Learning and designs with these tenets in mind

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement school policies and procedures to support AISB’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Teach IB Diploma Biology (SL/HL) and Grades 9–10 Science
  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, inquiry-based lessons that support a diverse, international student body
  • Incorporate research-based teaching practices and maintain current curriculum documentation on school platforms such as Atlas and Veracross
    Use formative and summative assessment effectively to guide learning and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Design for and differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs
    Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure curricular coherence, vertical alignment, and shared best practice
  • Support students in developing critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and research skills
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress using school platforms (e.g., Veracross, Google Workspace)
  • Maintain high expectations for student conduct, fostering a respectful and positive learning environment
  • Serve as an advisor providing academic and pastoral support to a small group of students
  • Integrate technology intentionally to enhance learning and engagement

Participate actively in the life of the school, including co-curricular activities, Core Expeditions (overnight trips), faculty meetings, and professional learning communities
