Global citizenship

At AISB, Global Citizenship is an outlook on life and behavior, aiming to improve the world for both current and future generations.

We demonstrate and define global citizenship by...

  • Creating an equitable and inclusive culture that respects and values diversity
  • Understanding the need to protect the environment and actively taking steps to do so
  • Demonstrating creativity, courage and critical thinking when involving ourselves in local and global issues
  • Developing a strong sense of self that exhibits moral and ethical behavior

Internationalism

Internationalism is a philosophy that values both our diversity and our common humanity.

At AISB, Internationalism enables us to achieve new understandings, broadening our local and global experiences and, in the process, empowering us to become citizens of the world.

AISB affirms a commitment to internationalism through community-building experiences, service-learning opportunities and the philosophy that underpins our policies and programs.

We seek to develop students who are at ease with multiple cultures, who can lead as well as collaborate, who can communicate in several languages, and who proactively contribute to our world.

Academic excellence

We understand Academic Excellence as aspiring to excellence in all areas of a student’s curricular and co-curricular experience.

Academic Excellence is the maximum development of one's individual capacity and skills, and is demonstrated by

  • Taking initiative, responsibility and ownership to broaden one’s learning
  • Taking risks and setting individual challenges to achieve personal growth
  • Applying creativity, knowledge, skills, and teamwork to authentic situations, and local and global problems
  • Reflecting critically on one’s work in order to learn from experience and improve future performance
  • Approaching academic pursuits with pride, passion, rigor, and integrity
  • Incorporating a solution-oriented, problem-solving approach to the ethical use of technology
  • Meeting and/or exceeding the stated standards and benchmarks as documented in the AISB curriculum

Inclusion Philosophy

AISB is committed to being an inclusive school. We see our rich diversity as a point of strength to be embraced, enhanced, and protected. Our value of inclusion is based on our commitment to fostering a culture where everyone belongs. As a school, we are committed to furthering our understanding, practices, and systems through ongoing reflection, so all members of our community are respected, appreciated, and able to reach their highest point of contribution.
